WOODY GUTHRIE HONORS FROM GUYS WHO HAVE A WAY WITH WORDS
02/21/12 6:43 PM
Woody Guthrie’s daughter Nora invited four singer-songwriters to visit Woody’s archives, and pore through notebooks, scratchpads, napkins and anything else that might inspire them. Then this cadre of musical brothers—JAY FARRAR (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo), WILL JOHNSON (Centro-matic), ANDERS PARKER (Varnaline) and Yim Yames (My Morning Jacket)--finally got together and recorded NEW MULTITUDES, an intimate interpretation of Guthrie’s previously unrecorded lyrics in all their glory. CD and Vinyl is in stores on 2/28, but we’ve got your chance to hear one of those tributes, “Old L.A.” right here, right now.
