Flur

Flur is an independent record shop and distributor located on the waterfront in Lisboa, Portugal, across the street from the train station of Santa Apolónia and a very short walk from Lux, a high profile nightclub. Flur was founded in the Spring of 2001 and opened as a record shop on December 4, 2001, initially trying to cover areas of electronic music usually neglected by other shops around town. As its staff mutated, so has the offer of styles in the shop's racks on both sides of a long and narrow ground floor (3x20 meters).

In January of 2005, Flur opened a distribution office uptown, but it merged with the shop in October of the same year, when a first floor (an upper deck) was built from scratch above the shop space. This new office has an area of 3x10 meters, quickly jammed full of CDs and vinyl.

Labels distributed by Flur in Portugal since January 2005 include the Basic Channel group, Bpitch Control, Environ, Fat Cat, Huume, Kitsuné, Kompakt, Leaf, Max.Ernst, Minus, Morr, Nonplace, Paw Tracks, Playhouse, Scape, Spectral Sound, Sub Rosa, Stones Throw, Tzadik, Whatever We Want and many more.

Other activities related to Flur Include a live act by Akufen (September 8, 2002) at Lux; DJ set by Rob Mello (December 4, 2002), also at Lux, for the shop's first anniversary; live mic show by Max Turner of the Meteorites and DJ set by Malika (December 21, 2003) inside the shop, repeating at Lux (January 8, 2004) with the addition of special guest Cristian Vogel, who happened to be in town to  soundtrack a contemporary dance performance; two nights dedicated to the New York sound as presented in the Soul Jazz compilation New York Noise, first one at Lux (July 10, 2004), then at Aniki Bóbó in Porto (July 25, 2004), special guest DJs were, respectively, Zé Pedro Moura and Pedro Tenreiro, everything in cooperation with Sabotage, local Soul Jazz distributor; also with Sabotage, two other special nights at Lux (June 10, 2005) and Passos Manuel, Porto (July 2, 2005), promoting another Soul Jazz compilation: Acid Can You Jack? 

A weekly newsletter is sent by email every Friday afternoon since May 31, 2002. It features the week's new arrivals and a few paragraphs highlighting those considered more important by the staff
